MacBook Pro (2017) Review

Aamir Khan

The most potent Apple portable device is the Macbook Pro (2017), which comes with extra performance but no additional charges. When you talk about speed, performance, and outlook, the MacBook Pro (2017) is the perfect match for you.

It is much more expensive, but you also got a lot of performance features and the cool look of the laptop. It is almost $1,299, which is much more costly, but when you read this article, you will be entirely oppressed by the features and performance of MacBook Pro (2017), and at the end, you also say that this price is less than what the Apple us providing features in it.

If you’d walked into an Apple Store before WWDC(Worldwide Developers Conference), you’d have picked up a laptop with last year’s CPU and SSD. Still, quick, the year’s the best. This is also the same laptop with faster speed, but its performance is not the performance of the MacBook Pro (2017). So it is the best version.

It’s a combination that It’ss an already great laptop into a truly excellent one. Here’s why.

Price and Availability MacBook Pro (2017)

The Macbook Pro 2017 is available at Apple Store. The entry-level price is $1,299 for the 2.3GHz model. It is the price for the entry-level model but is almost similar to the 2016 model with few changes.

Back in 2016, when Apple released the MacBook Pro, the initial cost for the 13-inch model was set at £1,249/$1,299. However, this model featured an older 5th-generation Intel processor (Broadwell). The entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro with the newer 6th generation Intel chip (Skylake) was priced at £1,449/$1,499, providing an updated and more robust option for consumers.

Apple has made a significant change for 2017 by discontinuing the older 13-inch Broadwell MacBook Pro model. Instead, customers can purchase a new 13-inch MacBook Pro featuring the latest 7th generation Kaby Lake processor for the same affordable price.

The pricing of the 13-inch MacBook Pro is as follows:

  • 2.3GHz Kaby Lake i5 dual-core processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640, £1,249/$1,299
  • 2.3GHz Kaby Lake i5 dual-core processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640, £1,449/$1,499
  • 3.1GHz Kaby Lake i5 dual-core processor, Touch Bar, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650, £1,749/$1,799
  • 3.1GHz Kaby Lake i5 dual-core processor, Touch Bar, 8GB RAM, 512GB storage, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650, £1,949/$1,999

Build-to-order options:

  • 3.3GHz Kaby Lake i5 dual-core processor + £90/$100
  • 3.5GHz Kaby Lake i7 dual-core processor + £270/$300
  • 16GB RAM + £180/$200
  • 1TB SSD + £400/$400

Now you can choose the processor combination with RAM and SSD according to your budget.

The 2017 MacBook Pro is not much different from last year’s model in design and style. However, the new model still retains some of the key design elements of its predecessor. For instance, it features the same svelte, all-aluminum chassis that feels immensely sturdy and is available in Space Grey or Silver color choices. Additionally, the shiny Apple logo etched into the lid is still present, although the light-up logo of the old is dead and buried.

It is lighter at about 1.4 kg, which is not too lightweight. You don’t feel it in your bag when you are lifting it. It’s only 15mm thick, whIt’sis significantly skinnier than the previous generation design.

There are also many much thinner and lighter products/laptops of Apple out in the market, which gives more portability.

The absence of side connectivity remains unchanged from 2017. This means you’ll have to invest in the MacBook Pro offers only two USB-C ports. These ports also function as Thunderbolt 3 ports and deliver high-speed performance with compatible hardware. However, you’ll need adapters for your old devices since they are incompatible with USB-C.

The resolution of the Macbook pro-2017 is not comparable with the high-performance graphics cards, but it is also too much, which is 2560×1600 pixels. The 13.3″ panel is bu “sting with detail, and even the macOS desktop looks pin-sharp.

This is too much resolution for photos and videos, but it’s color vibrancy, and it is racy where the screen stands out. This resolution covers the DCI-P3 wide color gamut, see – the same color see all of today’s blockbuster films.

The laptop screen quality is awe-inspiring, showcasing brilliantly bright hues, crisp, pure whites, and deep, inky blacks, seamlessly sharing screen time. As a bonus, graphics professionals will be more than satisfied with the complete sRGB coverage, ensuring that colors are accurately represented. In my experience, I have yet to come across a better-quality laptop screen, making this laptop a top choice for those who prioritize visual excellence.

Brightness is also very well and impressive. According to Apple, it can hit eyeball-searing 500nits.

There is also a 0.7MP FaceTime HD camera, which you can use for high-resolution HD video calling.

Now we move toward the audio of the laptop. There is no room for speakers at the sides of the keyboard of a 13″ Macbook Pro 2017, but “people have managed to squeeze a pair in here. They can pump out sound, too, with ample volume and clear vocals.

Specifications and Features of MacBook Pro (2017)

Furthermore, at WWDC in June 2017, Apple introduced several significant and notable features and specifications:

  • Kaby Lake processors
  • Improved graphics
  • A new, lower price for the entry-level 13-inch model

Kaby Lake is the new processor introduced by Apple, so we will talk about it in this article;

1. Processor

One of the most significant introductions of the Kaby Lake processor was by Apple at the end of the 2016 MacBook Pro, while the previous was the Skylake processor in 2016 MacBook Pro in October 2016.

After that, Apple took eight months to boost performance by introducing the Kaby Lake processor instead of the Skylake processor.

The Geekbench 4.1 test was explicitly conducted on the processor, and the following results were observed. To provide context, the results of the same test were also included for older models and the current MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro for comparison.

3.1GHz, dual-core, i5, 13in MacBook Pro, 201793544433
1.2GHz MacBook 201768353667
2.9GHz, dual-core i5, 13in MacBook Pro, 201675373797
2.0GHz, dual-core i5, 13in MacBook Pro, 201670953632
1.6GHz 13in MacBook Air 201555303040
2.9GHz, quad-core, i7, 15in MacBook Pro, 2017157314739

Here we are comparing the models being compared are not identical in specification. You would expect a 3.1GHz processor to do better than a 2.9GHz processor even if there wasn’t a processor generation wasn’t-leap to consider. Despite being the entry-level Touch Bar model of 2017, the increase in score from 7537 to 9354 is still significant. It’s worth noting that it’s compared to the 2016 entry-level Touch Bar model makes the improvement even more impressive.

Here we can’t compare the dual-core processor of 2016 with the quad-core processor of 2017, as two processors can’t beat four processors. I can’t note that the 15-inch laptops have quad-core while 13 inches have dual-core processors.

2. RAM

This is another specification where the 15-inch laptop beats the 13 inches, as the 13 inches has just 8GB of built-in RAM, although it can upgrade the RAM to 16GB. On the other hand, 15-inch Macbook Pro (2017) is shipped with 16GB of RAM.

If you are looking for high performance according to your work, you should make an upgradation at the time of purchase as you can’t upgrade later. So can’t think you need 16GB RAM; make this decision when purchasing or buying the 15-inch Macbook Pro.

If you think you will need more RAM than 16GB(Highly unlikely, but some people do), then you should look for other options, as 15 inches is not providing any opportunity for 32GB RAM, despite calls for it to do so.

3. Graphics

The Macbook pro-2017 has a high-quality display that supports billions of colors and a retina display with backlit, which is fantastic, as we expect from Apple. In the Display section, we have already wholly discussed the screen resolution, color, and graphics of the Macbook pro-2017.

4. Storage

If we divide Macbook Pro 2017, then there are three variants. The first one is 128GB which is at the entry level. You may run out of storage if you want to save many home videos and photos. However, this is useful if your work is to create page documents. Then the size of your storage doesn’t matter; if you don’t have too many big files, you can efficiently work with low storage and store your data on the cloud– which might cost you £0.79 a month or £2.49 a month for 200GB. You can get 2TB of cloud storage for £6.99 a month.

But if you have big files and an enormous amount of data, you should move toward the MacBook Pro with storage of 256GB and 512GB. Remember that there is no need to buy a model with more storage space; for example, choose the non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro and upgrade it to 512GB or even 1TB of storage for a price.

Apple products use SSD or flash storage in their laptops instead of physically moving objects like HDD. That is the reason why Apple products are faster. It is noticed that many Apple laptops are shorter than many desktops.

To test how well the storage performed, we timed how quickly we could copy and paste a 4GB file and ran the AJA System read and write test.

5. Touch Bar

The touch bar is the alternative to the Apple touch screen, which is more challenging to use as there should be the focus of eyes on the touch bar and screen simultaneously if you want to use it.

Touch bar capabilities are integrated into many apps like Apple Safari.

Although using the Touch Bar does take some getting used to, there are some fun implementations. We’d like to see featureWe’dke the Dock replicated there, and we expect that the launch of macOS High Sierra will bring more in the way of Touch Bar integration with apps.

6. Ports

The MacBook pro-2017 comes with USB-C with Thunderbolt 3, which benefits pro users. Wo ports in the case of the non-Touch Bar 13-inch models, four in the case of the Touch Bar 13-inch and 15-inch models.

This Macbook Pro has great and stunning features related to performance and speed. Go to the Apple store now and purchase your dream laptop today.
